My Soapbox for the Day – Rooms to Go
July 11, 2007 at 4:47 pm | In Uncategorized | 3 CommentsOK, I need to vent so here it goes. I will NEVER buy anything from Rooms To Go again. When we went there, we already had issues with the fact that they charge you a delivery fee, without giving you an option of picking it up yourselves because they said they don’t have a warehouse for you to pick it up from except in Charlotte. They are just a showroom. Never mind every other “showroom” in town (at least that we visited and have called) have given you the option of picking up or delivering. I did, however, overlook that immediate issue because I had a 7 year old daughter with a broken arm that had fallen in love with the princess daybed that we could find no where else with “crystal” finials on each post.
So on July 1st we ordered the bed and we were told it would be delivered July 3rd. On July 2nd, we got a call that said the shipment did not arrive in the warehouse in time so that they would have to reschedule after the next delivery from the warehouse which would be the next week.
So they rescheduled the delivery date for July 10th. I got a call July 9th to tell me delivery time would be between 10-4, but that they would only be delivering part of the daybed because part of it was on back order and would not be available until August 18th….then yesterday at 10, they called to tell me delivery time would be changed to 5-9pm, then at 8:30 they called to say they were running too far behind to deliver and would call tomorrow to deliver it.
So I’m still sitting around waiting. We called the showroom, who said the information in the system said it was unsuccessful delivery to which we informed her it was not unsuccessful because of something we did, they just never came. So she called the dispatcher, who called the truck and almost an hour later we were told they were running behind again and were only calling ahead every hour and couldn’t give us anymore information on delivery time. So now I sit and wait. They did refund the delivery charge, and the office people at the showroom were reasonable nice, but the company itself has lost my business for good. There is a bed sitting in the showroom that the manager can’t lone us until the bed comes in because that is company policy even though the have promised us 3 different times to deliver and as of yet we still have none of the bed.
Let me say that I think I am a fairly reasonable person and if they had told us up front that the bed would probably not be available for delivery until sometime in August with the possibility of it arriving sooner, then I could have made the decision as to whether or not I was willing to wait that long or whether I wanted to continue to look around to try to find something else she would like just as well. And I probably would have been willing to wait, but it is the principle of promising something over and over again, continuing to change, acting like my money and my schedule is not important to your company that bothers me. I am sure in the grand scheme of things losing my business will not hurt their company, but I have worked with people long enough to know if that is how this company runs their business eventually it will catch up with them.
My little girl has been disappointed over and over and has for the most part remained positive and kept a great attitude, and for that I am very grateful, but I felt it my duty and need to vent my frustration and hopefully save some of you from the same frustrating process.
I will also say this, Ashley furniture and Haverty’s Furniture have been wonderful. The sales people, warehouse people and every other person along the way that I have had the pleasure of speaking with when ordering furniture have left me feeling like my business was important to them and we have been very pleased with the quality of the materials we have purchased.
Thanks for indulging me in my venting process.

How maddening!! This reminds me of when we went to Puerto Rico, and they lost our luggage at the airport. We were staying 3 hours across the island and the courier called every day with an excuse as to why he couldn’t make it. We finally got our luggage 6 days later, the day before we left, when we picked it up at the airport!
I will not shop at RTG, in solidarity with you!

What a fiasco Helen. I am sorry that you have went through all that. We went to a Room’s To Go in Greensboro when we first moved here and was looking for furniture. We never ended up buying anything there though. That is pretty poor business and I would hope they could make it up to you in some way besides delivery cost.

I have also had a horrible experience with Rooms to Go. I purchased a bed for my 5 year old daughter and was told it was on back order for about 1 month. When they delivered the bed, the manufacturer had drilled some pieces incorrectly and they had to reschedule the rest of the bed delivery. I was told that customer service would contact me to reschedule but no one ever did. When they came back about 10 days later, to finish assembling the bed,the warehouse had shipped the wrong part.
Again no one contacted me until I called and requested a store manager call me back. That never happened but I have spoken to about 5 separate people now regarding our order. None of them were able to track our situation. Finally today, a week after the second delivery failure, I’ve been told they will deliver the remainder of our bed this Saturday between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM. Between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM!!!
None of the people I spoke to seemed surprised or apologetic about the situation.
I will never ever shop at Rooms to Go again!!
Incidently, I’ve had really good experience with Ashley Furniture also…
